Pacino's Restaurant was established in 1994 by then owner Frank Bergin. Prior to Pacino's there was The 18th Prescint, a renowned New York style breakfast house which operated from the site at 18 Suffolk Street for many years. To this day there is still a brass shield, taken from the 18th Prescient Police Station in New York in the ‘80s, hanging in the restaurant.
Back then Pacino's was, as it still is, a family friendly restaurant serving great food at great prices in a relaxed atmosphere. In 1997 Scruffy Murphy's, a separate diner operating in the basement of the building, closed and the leases were combined to form one entity. For the years that followed the old basement was used as an ad hoc private function room and later for storage purposes.
Frank Bergin retired in 2006, selling on his business to the Martin family. From the outset Michael Martin realised that the old building needed some renovation, which had not been carried out in over 25 years. In September 2007 Pacino's closed for full refurbishment on three floors and the old Scruffy Murphy's in the basement was converted into the Cellar bar that it is today, with its beautiful arched ceilings and old sandstone walls lovingly restored to former glory.
Pacino's Restaurant was upgraded with a new, more prominent shop-front with retractable windows, the kitchen was completely refitted and redesigned while the mezzanine floor, which was once the old office, was also transformed giving an additional 40 seats along with facilities.
Today we continue with our plan to serve great food at affordable prices in a relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere. Our food is continuously worked on, so as to insure that we serve the best quality produce at the best value to our loyal customers.
